Singapore’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today the ministers would discuss the humanitarian situation in Myanmar and consider how best to assist the country in its relief and recovery efforts.

Singapore, which is currently the Chair of ASEAN had offered last week to host the special meeting, following the critical situation in Myanmar in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis which killed over 20,000 people and devastated the country, more than a week ago.

Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo has written to Myanmar Foreign Minister U Nyan Win on the offer made by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for Singapore to host the meeting.

Malaysia will be represented by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim at the one-day meeting.
