Dust Storm Leaves over 50 Dead in India

New Delhi : More than 50 persons died in the worst dust storm that has hit India in ten years, said various dailies in this capital on Thursday.

According to officials, the death toll of the Wednesday storm that pounded 13 districts of the Indian Uttar Pradesh state could go further.

The maximum deaths were reported from Kannauj and Jhansi districts where several people died in incidents of fire, wall collapse and uprooting of trees.

The strong winds accompanied by a short spell of rainfall also left dead in Firozabad, Jalaun, Etawah, Unnao and Mathura and Hathras districts.

The meteorological department said the stormy conditions were typical of the pre-monsoon period.

The change in weather was owing to the upper air cyclonic circulation formed in different parts of the north-west regions of the country, said the text.

New Delhi and also experienced similar weather conditions.
