Beirut : The Lebanese opposition leaders announced Monday that the bloc refuses to form a national unity government and elect a president before discussing the election law, Al-Manar TV reported.
The opposition leaders made the announcement after their meeting in Qatari capital city of Doha. The bloc also renewed its commitment to inter-Lebanese dialogue in Doha and the Arab League (AL) initiative, said the report.
Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr al-Thanimade an attempt on Sunday afternoon to postpone discussions on the disputed election law until the national unity government and the presidential election commences.
Meanwhile, AL Secretary General Amr Moussa said that he will leave Qatar Tuesday no matter what the result of the inter-Lebanese talks is because he has other commitments.
Lebanese rival leaders have been in Qatar since Saturday trying to reach an agreement on the national unity government and the election law in order to “crown” the consensus president.
Lebanon is facing the most complicated political crisis since the 1975-1990 civil war. Its rival groups were unable to achieve a breakthrough to elect a new president for the country since Nov. 24 last year when ex-President Emile Lahoud ended his term.
