Ahmedabad : The Sports Authority of India (SAI) office in Gandhinagar is offering special packages at subsidised rates for beginners in order to identify talent.
The SAI Western Sector at Gandhinagar is launching 15-day ‘Learn to Play’ and ‘Learn to Swim’ packages and other facilities for beginners.
“Our idea is to sort out and identify talent and then train them further in all disciplines after the 15 day period is over,” U.S. Chauhan, administrative officer of SAI Western Centre, told IANS Monday.
He also added that SAI , with its synthetic hockey turf, international size swimming pool, multi-purpose training hall, fitness centre, steam and sauna facilities had also established a massage centre recently which is operated by a masseur trained by Russian experts.
The registration fee is Rs.100 and the packages under offer begin from May 26. Chauhan said this is the first time that there would be a talent search and those selected would be inducted to the regular coaching scheme after the 15-day package.
The initial period of training for all is 15 days and the fee is Rs.1,000. The disciplines include swimming, cricket, yoga, athletics, basketball, badminton, football, gymnastics, hockey, handball, judo, kabaddi, volleyball and wrestling and it is separate for boys and girls, he said.
