Cairo : Arab League secretary general Amr Moussa visits Khartoum next Wednesday for talks with Sudanese president Omar Al-Bashir and other senior officials to follow up the resolution of the dispute between Sudan and the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Moussa will be visiting Sudan as part of the Arab League’s endeavors to find a solution for the ICC chief prosecutor’s request of an arrest warrant against Al-Bashir, head of Moussa’s office Hesham Yusuf said in a statement on Saturday.
The ICC prosecutor accused Bashir of genocide and war crimes in Darfur and asked the court to issue an arrest warrant.
Moussa’s visit to Khartoum followed intensive consultations over this issue during the recent UN General Assembly (UNGA) meetings in New York, said Yusuf.
Qatar is chairing an Arab committee to tackle the Sudan-ICC issues. Doha will be hosting talks between the Sudanese government and rebel movements in Darfur in a bid to iron out their differences.
