“The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is not up to the challenges and threats of the 21st century, in fact it continues collapsing”, said the head of Russian diplomacy.

Lavrov said that the recent conflict between Georgia and South Ossetia confirmed the need to update the current system.

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev suggested the drafting of a new security treaty for the so-called Old Continent before Tbilisi attacked Tskinvali that “almost all OSCE members have shown interest to discuss”, said Lavrov.

According to Lavrov, Moscow supported the French initiative to celebrate OSCE summit in 2009 and examine the Russian initiative.
