Karnal (Haryana : The strength of security personnel in central and state police forces would be increased in view of the growing threat of terrorism, Home Minister Shivraj Patil said Saturday.
Patil said the government would raise the strength of the central police forces from 800,000 to 1.2 million and that of state police forces from 1.4 million to 2.1 million.
He was addressing police personnel at the 57th All-India police sports meet at Madhuban near here, 140 km from Chandigarh.
Patil said that he had assured chief ministers of all states, who met him recently, that all their proposals for increasing the strength of their state police forces will be approved by the central government without any delay.
