Dubai : Bangladesh bowler Abdur Razzak has been reported for suspect action, an International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a press release Thursday.
The left-arm spinner was reported by Emirates Elite Panel umpires Daryl Harper and Asoka de Silva at the conclusion of his country’s second Test against New Zealand in Mirpur.
The umpires explained they had concerns over the player’s faster ball and, having monitored it during both the matches in the series, decided “it was appropriate the delivery should be scrutinised further under the relevant ICC process.”
The process is that the ICC will send a copy each of the relevant television footage to the player and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The third copy will remain with the ICC.
Within 21 days of the BCB receiving the report, the player is required to submit to an independent analysis of his action by a member of the ICC panel of human movement specialists, appointed in consultation with his board. The report of the analysis must reach ICC within 14 days of the exercise being carried out.
If a player is found to have bowled with an illegal action during the independent analysis then he will be banned from bowling until he undertakes remedial action and he is reassessed.
If the independent analysis finds the player guilty of bowling a specific delivery with an illegal action, only then he can continue to bowl in international cricket with a warning that if he is reported again then he will be banned from bowling with immediate effect.
The bowler can continue to bowl till the BCB receives the report of the independent analysis.
