Armed forces pledge two days’ rations for Bihar flood-hit

Mumbai : All personnel of the Indian armed forces will donate two days’ rations for distribution to the people affected by the floods in Bihar, an official announcement said here Wednesday.

The Chief of Staff Committee chairman, Admiral Sureesh Mehta made this announcement while expressing solidarity with the flood affected people, according to a Western Naval Command (WNC) statement Wednesday.

The WNC Wednesday dispatched an additional naval team with boats, medicines, rescue equipment and food items to augment ongoing relief operations in Bihar.

The navy has also activated rescue teams from the eastern and southern naval commands to help in the operations.

So far, over 180 naval personnel, including 100 from the WNC, Mumbai, and 30 boats are engaged in the rescue operations conducted from Chunni village near Raniganj. The boats are deployed extensively for shifting marooned people from the flood-ravaged areas.

Three days ago, the WNC sent to Bihar a team of 60 personnel, including 40 expert divers specialized in flood water rescue operations, besides a consignment of rescue and relief materials.
