The 15-nation council extended sympathy to the victims of the “heinous act of terrorism” during a meeting in New York, adding that terrorism remained one of the most serious threats to peace in the world.

At least 50 people were killed and around 200 injured, including some foreigners, in an apparent suicide bomb attack Saturday on the five-star Marriott hotel in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad.

The council’s meeting came on the sidelines of the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations for the opening of the General Assembly.
