New Delhi: A meeting of Bharti Muslim Majlis (BMM) chaired by its president Saba Asrar has come up with an advice to the leaders and voters, “He who will champion Muslims cause will rule over this country.”
BMM president told the press, “Presently, there are about 30 crore Muslims in the country and they are in a decisive position in at least 150 constituencies. So, all political parties are eyeing Muslim votes.” Castigating vote-bank politics, he said: “Muslims are now awake. They are not subjects of any particular party. They will vote for who supports them.” BMM is campaigning for 10 per cent reservation for Muslims.
Reflecting on past performance of major political players, Mr. Saba Asrar said: “BMM has written to various parties asking about their performance as well as policy and programs for Muslims’ betterment and we will advise voters to elect those who have a better record.” Reacting over opposition to minorities’ welfare programs, he said, “Some people stoke communalism only to become known.”
Condemning political brokers, Mr. Saba said, “They bargain for the whole community only for sake of their own benefit but never return back till five years are over.”
Expressing distress over the community’s position as revealed by Sachar Committee report, he said, “None of the brokers bothers about it when Muslim youths are implicated falsely or fake encounters are enacted.”
“Some people launch a political party just at the brink of elections. They only serve to divide Muslim votes” said Mr. Saba adding “They are making Muslim votes ineffective in name of caste, region or class. Muslims should be aware of such elements.” For voters’ guidance BMM is preparing a list of Muslim-friendly candidates.
