Trinamool activists shot at in West Bengal

Kolkata: Two Trinamool Congress activists received bullet injuries when they were attacked by a group of unknown assailants Saturday in West Bengal’s North 24-Parganas district, police said.

The incident sparked tension in the area as irate Trinamool Congress workers staged a road blockade before the local police station demanding the immediate arrest of the offenders.

According to police sources, the incident took place near Sodepur town under Ghola police station area when two Trinamool Congress activists – Harabilas Paik and Shyamal Bhadra – were shot at. Both were admitted to the state-run R.G. Kar general hospital.

Condemning the attack on her party workers, Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee rushed to the spot and demanded police action.

She alleged that both Paik and Bhadra were fired upon by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-backed criminals.

“We’ll observe a black day tomorrow (Sunday) in every block across the state to protest this incident,” Banerjee said.

She alleged CPI-M cadres were committing atrocities on Trinamool activists all over the state.
