Vadodara : Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said it was unfortunate that the country’s political system “fosters the dominance of one family”, and India needs to be free of “such mindset” so as to release “tremendous energy for a vibrant democracy”.
Speaking after unveiling the statue of Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Narayan here late Sunday, Modi emphasised the need to recognise the contributions of great Indian leaders. “Unfortunately our political system fosters the dominance of one family. It is creating all sorts of evils. India needs to get free from such mindset so as to generate tremendous energy for a vibrant democracy,” he said.
Jayaprakash Narayan’s contribution to the country was being ignored. “It is an affront to democracy by those who are committing the sin of practicing ideological untouchability in public life,” Modi said.
He said India should learn from the recent US elections “to be free from dynastic politics of one family leadership”. “And for that we must recognize the efficiency of what true leadership means. We don’t need ‘Parivarvad’ in the name of bringing forth a youth leader. National interests are supreme,” said Modi.
He also inaugurated CCTV surveillance network at strategic locations at Vadodara.
He said the CCTV network would enhance traffic systems. The camera network placed at strategic locations can be extended to surveillance of important private and public entry points, Modi said.
The chief minister said that terrorism “emanating from our neighbour” had forced the state to take up such high degree of surveillance. “The prosperity of Gujarat is being targeted by the enemy nation as Gujarat is the border state of India. To check danger from outside one way is to make people aware by imparting civil defence training,” Modi said.
