Srinagar : The civil secretariat offices in this summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir re-opened Monday after functioning for six months in winter capital Jammu.
The offices of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his ministerial colleagues and all senior bureaucrats are part of the civil secretariat that moves between Srinagar and Jammu every six months, continuing a tradition set up by the erstwhile Dogra kings.
The state government spends around Rs.15 million annually to uphold the 140-year-old tradition.
Omar Abdullah was presented a guard of honour by a contingent of the armed police on his arrival at the civil secretariat here. The chief minister later went around the secretariat offices accompanied by state Chief Secretary S.S. Kapur and other senior officials.
