“We are proposing a channel from Malabar,” said Panakkad Syed Sadiqali Shihab Thangal, chairman of the Sathyadhara Communication Private Limited, to TCN. “All other channels in Kerala are based in Thiruvananthapuram or Kochi. Our channel will be based in Calicut.”

Ismail Kunhu Haji, chairman of the Muscat Sunni Centre, is the proposed managing director of the channel. The board of directors consist of NRI businessmen and traders. Siddeeque Faisy Valakkulam, former state vice-president of the SKSSF, is the executive editor. The channel will be broadcast from next April onwards. The primary works were begun a year ago. The infrastructure for distribution and other procedures have been completed. A studio complex in Delhi and a three-storey building to construct a studio in Calicut have been taken on lease. Land has also been bought at Ramanattukara in Calicut to construct the channel’s own studio complex.

“We are planning an infotainment channel keeping religious and moral values,” said Thangal. “Good documentaries will be aired and knowledgeable discussions held. The channel will air historically important films, and will produce serials.”

The channel will have regional offices in Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. It will also have an area office in Dubai to coordinate activities in the Gulf countries.

The channel is expecting investments from individuals, though focussed on NRIs mainly. There are also plans to collect shares ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Sadiqali Thangal will reportedly visit the Gulf countries shortly for the purpose.
