Beating India on home soil is difficult: Clarke

By IANS,

Chandigarh: Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke feels that it would be a difficult task to beat India, on their own soil, and batting against the experienced bowling attack of off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and fast bowler Zaheer Khan.

“Playing against India, at their home, will be a tough challenge. They have many experienced players and collectively is a very strong team,” said Clarke.

“However, if we play our best cricket then we can beat them in the series.”

On India’s bowling attack, Clarke said: “Playing against Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh will be a difficult task. Zaheer is a wonderful bowler with the new ball and he can also reverse well with the old ball.”

“Harbhajan Singh too has had a lot of success in Test cricket, against Australia, in particular,” he stated.

On the security arrangements, Clarke said: “Security arrangements are fantastic. We always get looked after very well in this country. All the players and other guys are excited about being here.”

Australian all-rounder Shane Watson was also full of praise for the local boy Harbhajan.

“Harbhajan is a brilliant exponent of spin bowling. It is always the hardest thing facing the new ball that swings,” said Watson.

Australian cricket team will play play a three-day warm-up match against the Gautam Gambhir-led President’s XI team at the Sector 16 Stadium here from Friday.

The first Test starts Oct 1 at Punjab cricket Association (PCA) stadium in the neighbouring Mohali town.
