Poll victory shows alliance unity: Omar

Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said Wednesday that the victory of all candidates of the ruling National Conference-Congress alliance in the state’s legislative council polls was proof of the coalition’s unity.

“Both the parties are on the same page and complement each other in translating the pledge of a khushaal (prosperous) Jammu and Kashmir into reality,” Omar said.

The chief minister was speaking at an informal meeting of National Conference and Congress leaders and winning candidates here soon after the results were announced Wednesday afternoon.

“I am confident that the coalition would also exhibit same spirit and determination in jointly facing the challenges ahead,” he added.

“I, on my and on behalf of Farooq Abdullah, Sonia Gandhi and Saif-ud-Din Soz, extend sincere congratulations to you legislators and the activists for exhibiting best example of unity and coordination,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, state Congress chief Saif-ud-Din Soz said that the “victory of coalition candidates is a shining example of the unity and harmony between the National Conference and Congress.”

The National Conference-Congress alliance bagged five seats in the legislative council polls, while one seat went to main opposition the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Bashir Ahmad Shah, Dharambir Singh and Noor Hussain of the National Conference, Yeshpaul Khajuria and Jahangir Mir of Congress and Mohammad Ashraf Mir of PDP were elected.
