Bhubaneswar : Orissa’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Thursday demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as the role of his office has been criticized in a draft report by a parliamentary panel probing the 2G spectrum case.

“He has no right to continue as prime minister. Since the 2G spectrum scam is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation, the prime minister should resign in order to pave the way for an impartial probe,” Durga Samantray, BJD’s youth wing secretary, told IANS.

Samantray said his party will organise a demonstration Friday in front of the official residence of Governor M.C. Bhandare and submit to him a memorandum demanding Manmohan Singh’s resignation.

The party will also organise similar demonstrations and protest meetings in all the 30 district headquarters from April 30. The protest will continue for ten days, he said.

A 270-page draft report circulated Wednesday among the members of the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has criticised Singh for giving an “indirect green signal” to former communications minister A. Raja to execute his “unfair and dubious designs” in selling scarce radio waves at throwaway prices.

The report does not hold the prime minister directly responsible for the alleged losses the 2008 sale of telecom licences caused to the nation. However, the prime minister does face criticism in the report.
