New Delhi : The Delhi Police have arrested a 24-year-old pilot here for using forged mark sheets to procure a commercial flying licence, an official said Wednesday.
“Jigesh Patel, who hails from Ahmedabad in Gujarat, was arrested Tuesday,” said a police official.
Patel was arrested on a complaint filed by D.C. Sharma, director, training and licensing, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Patel told police that he joined Ahmedabad Aviation and Aeronautics Ltd. in Gujarat and completed 10 hours of flying.
As no chief flying instructor was available there, Patel left the institute and joined Alchemist Aviation Ltd., Jamshedpur, in Jharkhand from where he completed 170 hours of flying till 2007, police said.
Patel claimed he appeared for pilot licence examinations for obtaining a commercial pilot licence but could not clear all the papers.
He then contacted a tout Eknath Patil, who was earlier arrested in the scam, for help. Patil took Rs.2 lakh from him and prepared a fake mark sheet which he submitted with the DGCA in 2008 for licence.
With Patel’s arrest, Delhi Police have arrested 21 people, including 12 pilots, since March 7 after the fake pilot scam was unearthed.
Police said that six more suspects were absconding.
