New Delhi : Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar Thursday urged the members to lend a helping hand to those suffering from HIV/AIDS and spread awareness about the disease.
In a message to the house on the occasion of World AIDS Day, she said: “Let us, on this occasion, resolve to augment our efforts for containing this dreaded disease by generating awareness among public and more importantly by lending a helping hand to those who are suffering.”
The speaker said the day was dedicated to raising awareness about the AIDS pandemic.
“As per estimates, more than 34 million people are living with HIV/AIDS and about 25 million people have died of AIDS worldwide since the first case was reported in 1981.
“Eradication of AIDS still remains one of the toughest challenges for mankind,” she added.
