New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at its two-day conclave of party chief ministers charged the ruling UPA of misusing government machinery against BJP state governments.
Party president Nitin Gadkari alleged BJP ruled states were being targeted by the centre: “Centre is misusing the government machinery against the BJP state governments in proportion to its diminishing image,” party spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad said quoting from Gadkari’s speech at the inauguration of the conclave.
Prasad also said the federal structure of the country has suffered in the Congress-led UPA’s rule.
“The National Development Council and Interstate Council has become defunct with no meeting being called in the last two years,” Prasad said.
The two-day meeting, which started Monday, will deliberate on welfare schemes, good governance and successful schemes of BJP-ruled states.
The meeting is being attended by all BJP chief ministers including Karnataka’s B.S. Yeddyurappa, Uttarakhand’s Ramesh Pokhriyal, Chhattisgarh’s Raman Singh and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, along with Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi and senior ministers of Punjab. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will be joining the meeting Tuesday morning.
The meeting is also being attended by party leaders L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and Rajnath Singh. Murli Manohar Joshi will join the meeting Tuesday.
Prasad also remarked that 36 percent of the country’s population was being led by BJP, or BJP alliance governments against the 31 percent being ruled by Congress or Congress led alliances.
