PDP leader Abdunnasir Maudany, who is 31st accused in the case, was represented by lawyers P Usman, Vasanth H Vaidya and Akbarali. All others accused were represented by the amicus curie and PN Venkitesh. Second accused Sainudheen and fourth accused Sharafudheen, who are in Gujarat jail in connection with the Ahmedabad blasts, were not presented in the court, as the video conferencing could not be done. All others accused present in Bengaluru jail were produced in the court. The proceedings of the bail plea of eighth accused Zakariyya and ninth accused Badrudheen will also take place on October 17, according to reports. The court reportedly informed the lawyers of the accused that all the discharge petitions already submitted and others would be considered together.

In another development, the People’s Democratic Party will organize a march to the Kerala Legislative Assembly on October 27 demanding the release of Maudany, informed party senior vice-president Varkkala Raj. Maudany was projected as a terrorist due to the cruel conspiracy of the governments of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Gujarat, he reportedly added.

Maudany was arrested from Kerala by the Karnataka police in the 2008 Bengaluru blast case on August 17, 2010, when he was on his way to surrender in court and just a short time before the Supreme Court was to consider his anticipatory bail plea. He was remanded to police custody for ten days and then remanded to judicial custody which has been extended since. As his bail plea was rejected by the Karnataka High Court, Maudany approached the Supreme Court. An earlier bench of the SC was divided over granting the bail and then the case was transferred to another bench. Meanwhile, the Karnataka Home Minister had once accused that Maudany was involved in the blast outside the IPL stadium in Bengaluru, but the police denied the allegation. And now the Tamil Nadu police has charged and arrested Maudany in the Coimbatore Press Club blast case of 2002. The Coimbatore Court has issued a production warrant to produce Maudany in the court on October 29.
