“The middlemen or brokers or touts have cheated both the government and the people in various government services and the tax payment system,” Transport and Power Minister Manik Dey said after launching SMS-based customer services of the transport department.

“On many occasions, government services were misutilised and people got fake documents through the middlemen. People gave tax or the necessary fees through the brokers to get government documents or services, but the agent betrayed both.”

“Dadagiri (big brother attitude) would not be allowed in government administration. If you find any union leader interfering in government functions, take legal action, and hand over them to the police,” the minister asked the officials.

Deputy Transport Commissioner Tamal Majumder said that people will get information of vehicle tax payment, vehicle fitness, national permits, registrations, license, ownership change, tax default related services through their mobile phones under the SMS-based customer services.

Besides the SMS-based customer services of the transport department, Tripura is the only state in northeast India where all land records, services to expecting and new mothers and monitoring of the midday meal scheme, among others, have come under the computerised monitoring system.

Education Minister Anil Sarkar Thursday launched e-granthagar (e-library) scheme at the Birchandra state central library. The new system will help people to access various library services and read books online.
