Sindh Inspector General of Police Fayyaz Laghari said most of the killings are due to sectarian strife.

Hundreds of people are gunned down every year in Karachi in sectarian violence between Shia and Sunni Muslims, Xinhua reported.

Besides sectarian attacks, about a dozen people were killed in political violence over the past week. The administration has deployed more policemen to control the situation.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik has asked the Karachi administration to boost local intelligence and police patrolling in sensitive areas.
