Chandigarh : Residents of Chandigarh faced the coldest day in over three decades with the maximum temperature hitting a new low of 6.1 degrees Celsius Monday.
Met officials said the maximum temperature recorded Monday was the lowest since 1982. The Met centre here has temperature records only from 1982 onwards.
Met centre director Surinder Paul said Monday’s temperature was the lowest high recorded over three decades. Before this, the lowest maximum temperature recorded in the city, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, was 7.2 degrees in 1989.
The maximum temperature Monday was 14 degrees below normal, Met officials said.
In comparison, the tribal belt town of Kalpa in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh and Shimla saw a maximum temperature of 6.4 degrees and 10.2 degrees, respectively.
“It was a bone-chilling day in Chandigarh today. I have never felt so cold earlier,” Sector 18 resident Rajiv Thakur told IANS.
The city witnessed a minimum temperature of 2.1 degrees Monday morning, making it the lowest temperature recorded this season.
