Preeti Rathi, 24, was attacked by the two men, both in their 20s, when she alighted from the Delhi-Mumbai Garib Rath Express May 2 at Bandra Terminus, police said.

Railway police chief Prabhat Kumar told reporters they were probing 300 “romantic” messages allegedly sent to the victim from the mobile handsets used by the two accused.

“The arrests were made by the Delhi GRP unit from the capital. We are yet to investigate which of them actually carried out the attack on the victim,” he said.

The accused, whose names were not disclosed by police, were taken into custody Wednesday, he said.

The two accused were tracked after a detailed scrutiny of the passenger list of a train which left Mumbai for the capital May 2, police said.

Preeti, who was scheduled to join the Army as a lieutenant in the nursing service, was left with burns on her face and is undergoing treatment at Masina Hospital, Byculla in south Mumbai, police said.
