Pro-Dalit outfit, MMK form alliance in Tamil Nadu

Chennai : The Puthiya Tamizhagam, a pro-Dalit outfit, and the recently floated Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) Wednesday fielded five candidates for the May 13 Lok Sabha Polls in Tamil Nadu and announced formation of the Social Democratic Alliance.

The alliance will contest from Tenkasi, Central Chennai, Mayiladuthurai, Pollachi and Ramanathapuram constituencies, founders of the Puthiya Tamizhgam and MMK, K. Krishnasamy and M. S. Jawahirullah, told reporters here.

The MMK, a political off-shoot of the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, will contest four seats, while Puthiya Tamizhagam one. Krishnasamy, a former legislator, will contest from Tenkasi, Jawahirullah will contest from Mayiladuthurai.

With a view to woo the substantial Muslim votes, Hyder Ali and Salemullah Khan will contest from Central Chennai and Ramanathapuram, respectively, they said.
