Kolkata : Agitating tribals in West Bengal’s Lalgarh, who are resisting entry of police in the area, Saturday decided to allow central paramilitary forces to enter the troubled region for 12 hours for conducting elections April 30.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Peoples’ Committee Against Police Atrocity (PCAPA), a group leading a movement against the state police at Baropelia area of Lalgarh in West Midnapore district.
“We will place a 23-point demand to the Election Commission and if they agree with our points, we will help the EC machinery to conduct Lok Sabha election in Lalgarh,” PCAPA leader Shyamal Mahato told IANS.
“We want the district police to come to us and tender a public apology for their excesses during the course of investigation into the case of landmine blast in Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s convoy.
“We’ll send a letter, mentioning all our demands, to the EC by tomorrow (Sunday),” Mahato said.
Trouble erupted in Lalgarh last November after the police arrested some school students and allegedly harassed tribal women following a landmine blast on the route of the convoy of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and central ministers Ram Vilas Paswan and Jitin Prasada near Bhadutala area.
