Court holds Punjab official guilty of contempt

Chandigarh : A full bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Friday held an ex-media advisor to former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh guilty of contempt of court in a case of nepotism in police recruitment.

Bharat Inder Singh Chahal was facing a contempt of court case for not allowing an important file, pertaining to his son’s wrongful selection as a deputy superintendent of police under sports category in February 2005, to reach the court.

The selection was later quashed by the high court. The quantum of sentence will be announced Aug 21.
