A censure notice will be attached to the doctor’s name for the next five years in the German medical register, said Cornelia Kur, a spokeswoman for the agency that oversees medical practices in the Frankfurt area.

The reprimand was only one harsher than the mildest possible form of disciplinary action.

Rainer Peters was convicted of violating his duty to treat all patients regardless of sex, age, origin or creed.

Kur stressed the doctor from the small town of Waechtersbach escaped a tougher penalty, such as a fine or being struck off the register, because he met with a Muslim group and publicly apologized for the incident.

Peters alleged he never seriously intended to turn any patients away.

German Muslims complain of daily discrimination and harassment in their daily lives amid a deepening Islamophobic wave in their country.
