Let Chacko give his suggestions in writing, says Joshi

New Delhi : Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, who heads parliament’s Public Acccounts Committee (PAC), Wednesday said Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) chairman P.C. Chacko should “better write to us” if he has any suggestion on the investigations into the 2G scam.

“Chacko is a senior and seasoned MP. And if he has any suggestions or observations to make about the PAC, he should better write to us,” Joshi told reporters outside parliament.

He was responding to Chacko’s reamrks to the media persons that the PAC should confine itself to looking into the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report on the allocation of the 2G spectrum licences.

However, Joshi refused to join issues with Chacko and said: “I will take into consideration when a communication (from Chacko) reaches me.”

The JPC and the PAC are separately probing the irregularities in the 2g spectrum allocation.

The PAC, which regularly scrutinises the government budget spending, takes references only from the government auditor report, which limits its role.

The JPC has an extended mandate to look into the telecom policy followed since 1998. But the PAC chairman has been maintaining that it had wide-ranging powers to go beyond the CAG report.

The CAG in its report tabled in parliament last November said that the revenue losses in the 2G licences given by then communication minister A. Raja could be to the tune of Rs.1.76 lakh crore.
