Syed Afzal Taher had walked into a rural hospital Monday with his head bandaged and multiple injuries in other parts of his body and asked the doctor present to prescribe pain killers.

“However, during admission at the Bagnan rural hospital he refused to give his name and address or the cause of the injuries. After keeping him on watch for a day we arrested him yesterday (Tuesday) as his injuries were similar to those of bomb blast victims,” according to a Howrah district police officer.

“His face also resembled the sketch of one of the suspects drawn by the National Investigative Agency. And there also seemed to be several grey areas in what he said,” said the officer.

The Special Task Force of the city police also interrogated Taher.

“Whatever he is saying appears incoherent. We have sent his photograph to Delhi Police and the National Investigation Agency,” said additional commissioner of city police and STF Chief Rajeev Kumar.
