Hyderabad: Taking serious note of the attacks on government officials by striking employees in the Telangana region, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy Monday ordered police to enhance protection to officers and deal firmly with the culprits.
After reviewing the situation caused by the “people’s strike” which entered its 14th day Monday, he also asked police to book the culprits who manhandled the officers and staff at transport commissioner’s office and other government offices.
A statement from the chief minister’s office Monday night, said the orders which the protesters forced the officers to issue were not valid and stood cancelled.
Earlier in the day, the protesters, including a state minister, had forced the transport commissioner to issue an order withdrawing show-cause notices he issued earlier to striking employees.
The chief minister directed police to beef up protection to all the coal mines in the state, where about 48,000 tonnes of coal is being produced daily.
He also asked officials to step up efforts to purchase coal, gas, and power from other states and grids to minimise the power cuts.
The officials informed the chief minister that 400 buses of the Road Transport Corporation were operated Monday. They also said 3,800 schools functioned with 18,500 teachers in attendance.
