Baghdad : Four Iraqis were killed and 18 others were wounded in a suicide bombing in Baqouba, which targeted a checkpoint manned by operatives of the Al-Sahwa (awakening) group.
Director of operations at the Ministry of the Interior Major General Abdel-Karim Khalaf said Wednesday that the explosion appeared to have targeted members of the Al-Sahwa.
However, Captain Muhende Albawi of the Baqouba police said the explosion resulted from a suicide bomber wearing a belt of explosives that killed all four operatives of the Al-Sahwa in addition to wounding 18 bystanders, among them one woman and a police officer.
Meanwhile, Wahab Iraqi, who is an operative of the Diyali chapter of the Al-Sahwa, said that the suicidal operation was masterminded by a woman wearing the explosive belt.
