In a final communique Sunday, the council strongly condemned the Israeli acts which were against the notion of peace in the region especially after the Annapolis conference, adding that Jewish settlements were not contributing to stability in the region.

Continuing to build the segregation wall, attacking Palestinians, and closing checkpoints are only going to increase the intensity of the situation in the Mideast, said the statement, calling on the US and other Annapolis participants to end the “ongoing Israeli selfish schemes.”

The council indicated that promises to establish a Palestinian state by the end of 2008 must be honoured in order to continue the path of the proposed regional peace.

The Arab League Secretariat, the Palestinian Authority, as well as Arab and international organisations must continue monitoring the Israeli actions to take proper actions against it, indicated the statement.

If the International Quartet and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) decided to not intervene with the situation, then Israel would continue to inflict pain on Palestinians as numbers of deaths and injuries continue to claim to the Hebrew state policies.

International organisations must open eyes to the injustice occurring in the region, said the statement by the council which revealed that letters exchanged by Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon would be showcased to the Quartet in order to take an active stance against what has been going in the region.
