New Delhi : On the second consecutive day, Sri Lankan air force Friday pounded Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) positions in northern region of the Island.
Fighter jets bombed a strategic inland sea-tiger camp at Kiranchi, west of Kilinochchi district. ‘The LTTE had been using the inland camp as a hiding place for their suicide boats’, All India Radio (AIR) reported here quoting official sources.
On the other hand, the Tamil Tigers claimed that the bombs were dropped at civilian areas in Kilinochchi. Pro-LTTE sources said that five civilians were killed and 13 others wounded following the bombing.
The air strikes came amidst intense hostilities in the
north-western district of Mannar.
More than 90 LTTE cadres and three soldiers were killed in separate confrontations during the past two days.
Two artillery positions of the LTTE were destroyed as the air force carried out aerial bombings in the north-western district of Mannar and northern LTTE stronghold of Mullaithivu yesterday.
