FM receives Pakistani religious leaders

Tehran : A number of Pakistani religious leaders discussed issues of mutual interest with Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here Monday.

In the meeting, Mottaki, by referring to the presence of foreigners in the region and their goals, underlined the necessity of unity among Muslims and Islamic countries.

Mottaki said, “One of the plans of foreign powers in the region is spreading disunity among Shia and Sunni Muslims and the role of religious leaders to neutralized such plots is very prominent.”

Iran’s senior diplomat said the latest visit of Iran’s president to Pakistan had been an important development in bilateral ties and added, “Iran intends to expand and deepen ties with brotherly and friendly neighboring country of Pakistan.”

Mottaki said, “Stability in Pakistan is very important for Iran.” The pakistani religious leaders, for their parts, expressed their viewpoints on religions approximation and the importance of unity and awareness among Muslims and appreciated Iran’s initiative on holding such international conferences here.
