Sarkozy welcomes “great success” of Doha meet, hails accord

Paris : French President Nicolas Sarkozy praised here Wednesday the Doha meetings which yielded an agreement ending the political crisis in Lebanon, saying that it is a “great success.”

Sarkozy stated the accord is a “great success for Lebanon and all the Lebanese, who have never lacked courage and patience despite the trials they have been through.” He praised the efforts exerted by all those who have contributed to efforts to reach this agreement, which “paves the way for civil peace and the normal operation of all Lebanese institutions.” The French leader paid tribute to the “desicive role played by the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifah Al-Thani and the Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem Al-Thani, as well as the Arab League Secretary General Amre Moussa.” Sarkozy affirmed that “France, which has invested much effort in the search for a solution to the Lebanese crisis, did not stop supporting the process which made it possible to lead to this agreement.” The French leader expressed hope that this agreement would be “entirely implemented to guarantee its success and to provide the foundation of a true national reconciliation.” He stressed that the “dialogue which started in Doha must continue in Lebanon.” “As a friend of Lebanon, in solidarity with all Lebanese, France stands more than ever by their side for the period that lies ahead. More than ever, it is committed to the unity, stability, sovereignty, and independence of Lebanon,” Sarkozy remarked.
