Baghdad : Iraqi Sunni politician said Wednesday that Iraq’s major Sunni bloc has suspended its talks on ending boycotting the cabinet with the Shiite-led government.
Adnan al-Dulaimi, head of the Iraqi Accordance Front, the largest Sunni bloc in the Iraqi parliament, said that his front’s decision came after dispute with the government over which position the bloc members would get and the names of candidates.
“We have withdrew our list of candidates which we have earlier submitted to the government because we haven’t received positive answers that would meet our demands,” Dulaimi told Xinhua.
“Our dispute with the government was about number of ministries we demand and the names of our candidates for these portfolios,” Dulaimi said.
Salim al-Jubouri, spokesman for the front said the decision was taken after Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki objected to a candidate for a cabinet position.
Last August, the Accordance Front pulled out of Maliki’s national unity government, demanding the release of detainees who are mainly Sunni Arab in Iraq’s prisons and calling for a greater say in security matters and decision-making.
