New Delhi : Three Indian shuttlers – Chetan Anand, Ajay Jayram and Aditi Mutatkar – have registered comprehensive second-round victories to enter the singles quarterfinals of the Toulouse Open badminton championship in Toulouse, France.
National Champion Anand scored a thumping win over Oedum Kasper of Denmark 21-13, 21-16 Thursday to reach the last eight stage of men’s singles where he will meet Andra Kurniwan Tedjono of Indonesia.
Anand has a psychological edge against Tedjono, having beaten him in the semifinal of the Spanish Open last week en route to his title win in Madrid.
In the first round, Anand got the better of Jordy Hilbin of Netherlands 21-13, 21-10,
Ajay Jayaram too did not break any sweat in getting past Henrik Toth of Hungary 21-15, 21-8 to book a quarterfinal berth. Ajay, who had beaten local player Yoann Turlan 21-9, 21-10 in the first round, will now meet Denmark’s Christian Thomsen.
In women’s singles, Aditi got the better of Molina Laura of Spain 21-14, 21-14 in the second round. Aditi will clash with local favourite Elisa Chanteur of France for a place in the semifinal. She had beaten Patty Stolzenbach of Netherlands 21-8, 21-16 in the first round.
Neha Pandit, who entered the final of Spanish Open last week, bowed out after losing to Patty 16-21, 11-21 in the first round. Gayatri Vartak also exited after losing her first round match to Weny Rahmawati of France 15-21, 15-21.
