Fidel Castro Meets Top China Leader

Havana : Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro met for two hours with He Guoqiang, member of the Permanent Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and secretary of the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Commission of Disciplinary Control.

The Chinese visitor passed on to Fidel regards from China’s Communist Party general secretary Hu Jintao and his wishes for a rapid recovery.

“We have always admired his struggle, will and courage,” said He Guoqiang, recalling how he had participated in several demonstration of solidarity with Cuba when he was younger.

He commented on his reading of the Chinese edition of the book “Cien horas con Fidel” (One Hundred Hours with Fidel) and the prologue the Cuban leader dedicated to the Chinese people, as well as Fidel Castro’s recent reflections on history and struggles of the Asian nation.

The two leaders exchanged opinions on bilateral relations, western provocations in Tibet, the situation in Taiwan, crude manipulation of human rights against socialism, the food crisis, information society and other important issues.

Also on the list was the great effort carried out by the Asian country to hold the Olympic Games in Beijing, and expectations for the duel between 110m high hurdles Chinese Olympic champion Liu Xiang and Cuban world record holder Dayron Robles.

The Chinese leader stressed the importance of Fidel Castro’s ideas for his people in the development of socialism and strengthening his spirit of struggle.

He Guoqiang expressed gratitude for the Cuban solidarity faced with the harsh consequences of the earthquake, with the presence of a medical brigade.

Fidel Castro praised the Cuban Revolution leadership efforts, particularly those by President Raul Castro in important topics like unity, work productivity, agricultural production increase, and energy savings.

Before concluding the meeting, Fidel Castro requested He Guoqiang pass on regards to Chinese leader Hu Jintao, and invited him to visit Cuba again.

Chinese Communist Party Central Committee’s International Department chief Wang Jiarui, ambassador to Cuba Zhao Rongxian, the Cuban Communist Party Central Committtee International Relations chief Fernando Remirez de Estenoz, the island’s ambassador to that Asian nation Carlos Miguel Pereira, and Council of State member Carlos Manuel Valenciaga Diaz attended the meeting.
