Washington : The US Air Force supplied its troops in Iraq with the new unmanned MQ-9 “Reaper” aircraft, designed to hunt down and murder humans, says Democracy Now radio and television network.
The mentioned network said the MQ-9 “Reaper” is considered more lethal than the MQ-1 “Predator” also operated by remote control.
It has flight autonomy, can carry 500 pounds of bombs and “Hellfire” missiles, and are armed with cutting-edge surveillance technology.
Analysts think the US Defense Department seeks a weapon to fight insurgents in complex theaters of operation and reduce its casualties, the source of broad criticism by the domestic public opinion.
The Pentagon says it doubled, in 2007, its unmanned planes in Iraq and Afghanistan, where over 4,000 US citizens have lost their lives.
