Gaza : Israel shut crossings that links it with the Gaza Strip Tuesday in implementation of orders by Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak who vowed retaliation for a missile attack that targeted the southern town of Sderot.
“The crossings’ closure came after the firing of ocket that targeted the Israeli settlement of Sderot late on Monday,” Israel Radio said, noting that there were no casualities or damage in the attack.
The closed crossings are Sofa and Karem Abu-Salem, through which the Gazans are supplied with food. The other gateways are Nahel Oz, for fuel, and Erez (Beit Hanoun), the only pedestrian exit point between the Strip and the West Bank.
Meanwhile, the Israeli daily “Yedioth Ahronoth” claimed that some Palestinian merchants, whose businesses were affected by the flow of supplies from Israel, were behind the missile attack.
The daily quoted Palestinian sources as saying that these merchants hired a militant to fire the rocket on Monday, seeking to raise prices of their goods.
