Oslo : Norwegian troops will be sent to Haitai in response to united Nations requests, said Norwegian Minister for Development and Environment Erik Sulheim on Saturday.
Quoted by the Norwegian news agency, the minister said Norway will send military forces to Haiti in response to a previous request made by the United Nations to the Norwegian Government.
The Norwegian government did not respond formally to the request so far purely because of administrative procedures and the differences between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense in Norway on issues of mobilization and finance.
The Norwegian minister said that the time had come to meet the request of the international organization and has allocated an amount of 400 million Norwegian kroner (80 million US dollars) to cover the expenses of those forces in the first stage.
