“The government was aware of public demonstrations in several countries around the world in response to recent developments in Lhasa”, Mukherjee said Thursday while replying in Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Indian Parliament), media reports said here.

He said the government hoped that all those involved will work to improve the situation and remove the causes of such trouble in Tibet, which is an autonomous region of China, through dialogue and non- violent means.

The minister sought to play down the issue of summoning of Indian Ambassador in Beijing at midnight to lodge a protest over Tibetans forcibly entering the premises of the Chinese embassy in the Capital on 21 March.

It was raised by Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, Najma Heptullah.

“That same evening (March 21) the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs sought a meeting with our Ambassador in Beijing and expressed their appreciation at the prompt action taken by Government. They also requested Government to continue to take the necessary measures to ensure the security of Chinese diplomatic and consular establishments,” Mukherjee said.
