French Agriculture Minister Michel Barnier announced a decree that bans trading with corn seeds developed from the genetically altered MON810 strain. The ban will be in force until a new trading license is arranged.

Ex presidential candidate Jose Bove, who carried out a hunger strike in Paris last January to protest transgenic products, considers it a success.

Despite the victory the cabinet will be now faced with lawsuit by local producers who claim losses worth $10 million euros.
