UN Addresses Climate Changes

United Nations : The UN General Assembly began a 48-hour debate on Monday to boost support and accords from the Conference of Bali to overcome climate changes.

The meeting, opened by Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and General Assembly Chairman Srgjan Kerim, involves ministers, diplomats, specialists, NGOs and the private sector.

Ban spoke of global interest in the December Conference on Climate Change in Bali, Indonesia, which closed with important progress on adaptation, technology and deforestation.

Another accord was to start negotiating a new international pact that should be ready by late 2009.

As top challenge, Kerim called to set up more effective associations involving individuals, the media, business and government leaders, regional organizations and the world community the UN embodies.
