Damascus : A meeting commenced on Saturday for oil and energy ministers of the five countries involved in the pipeline project that will transport Egyptian gas across Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Turkey and from there to European countries.
The ministers will talk about the final stages of extracting Egyptian gas after the pipeline was laid in Jordan, and through to Syria.
The meeting, called for by the Syrian oil minister, groups his counterparts from Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, and aims at looking into the next stage — channeling Iraqi gas to Lebanon and Turkey.
They will also discuss technical reports on what had been completed and the rest of the phases of the project. The first phase, laying the pipeline from Egypt to Jordan, had been completed a while back.
The total length of the pipeline will be 1,200 km once completed, at a cost of USD 1.2 billion.
