Islamabad : The revised draft of national education policy has been finalised and will be presented to next cabinet for approval, at the earliest.
“Having perused education policies enforced in other countries of the region, the guidelines in the policy were revised with consensus of all stakeholders to make it more receptive to contemporary trends and address future challenges”, Joint Education Advisor, Dr Fayyaz Ahmed who is also spokesperson of the Education Ministry told APP Wednesday.
Referring to delay in finalizing the policy, the spokesperson said, “ it is very difficult task to create consensus over some move, I tell you, anyhow rigorous stage is over now with success.”
He said the newly-revised syllabus, which would be updated after every five year, would be implemented from this every and quality textbooks were being prepared to make full use of it, he added.
Replying to a question, he said about 500 registered madaris had asked for funds according to their requirements like establishing computer labs, hiring teachers for science subjects etc.
He said an about of Rs 40 million had been allocated to meet requirements for these registered madaris that were contributing invaluable services for society’s prosperity.
Answering another question, he said that differences with madaris over conducting exams for their students was still lingering on, however, efforts were under way, he added, to come them round to holding exams by the education ministry’s examination boards.
He said that 10,000 schools would be established under the non-formal basic education project worth Rs 7 billion to provide education to masses living in far-flung areas.
Cognizant of the fact that education played a pivotal role in the country’s development, he said, the education ministry was committed to vigorously carry forward its agenda for proposing more funds for the sector uplift.
He said that concrete steps were being taken to make training institutes in the country more functional and that they had been asked to prepare extensive programmes for training teachers who played a crucial role in preparing children for leadership role for national prosperity.
He said that provinces were also being convinced to pump more financial resources into education sector, as according to him allocation of inadequate budget for the sector, is one of the main reasons for the present poor quality of education.
He said education sector, unfortunately, in the country, could not receive due attention in terms of sufficient budgetary allocation for it, thus, he added, he would make efforts to work on this front.
