Abbas is expected to meet Mubarak and senior officials in Egypt and the Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Moussa to discuss the latest update on the situation in the Middle East after the Annapolis conference that was held in the United States last month.

Palestinian ambassador in Cairo Mundhir Digani had indicated earlier that the Egyptian-Palestinian summit between Presidents Mubarak and Abbas Wednesday comes in the framework of efforts by the Palestinian leadership to mobilize Arab and international support to influence Israel to take serious action to stop the implementation of a final settlement of the item I of the road map to resolve other issues such as prisoners and deportees, reunification and engage in final status negotiations.
